*One drop with kick drum on every quarter note. *One drop with kick drum on every eighth note. ![]() The hi-hats may play straight eighth notes, quarter notes, sixteenth notes or triplet notes adding variation to the feel of the rhythm. ![]() The kick drum varies: sometimes it’s just on the first beat, the first and the third, every beat, or even just the third. The 3rd beat is emphasised with a dominant rimshot/snare and kick drum creating the one drop feel or backbeat. The one drop drum pattern is played in 4:4 or 2:4 measure. This has been a useful exercise for me and hopefully for others who enjoy working with this genre.
